The Mitten

Happy New Year everyone!!! Tomorrow is my first day back with my students after a lovely, wonderful, relaxing (well as much as it can be with two kids) week at home! And boy, did I need it. I am ready though to get back into the classroom. Since this is just a three day week, I have decided to do a very small unit about The Mitten. I love this book, and we have lots of snow from a few recent snow storms, so it will be perfect.

I have the big book by Jan Brett, so we will use that as our main focus. I am going to have my kiddos make large mittens from construction paper and place the characters inside while we practice retelling. I am also planning on doing a fun sorting activity using the students' mittens or gloves. I will try my best to post the recording sheet as a freebie as soon as I can.
