Froggy Friends

Hi everyone. I promise I will post pictures from my dinosaur museum soon. My camera is on the fritz at the moment. Yikes!!

My new theme or unit starting this week is "Frogs."  I just made a new emergent reader for my frog unit. It focuses on several sight words and contains a lot of great facts about these froggy friends! The clip art is from KPM Doodles and Scrappin Doodles. Click below to visit my store at TPT!

Coming Soon...The Kindergarten Dinosaur Museum!

Yes! It is almost time for my classroom dinosaur museum. My students have worked so hard throughout this unit and I am always amazed at how much they learn and accomplish. The classroom is set up to look like a museum. We have exhibits throughout the classroom. The children dress as dinosaurs and the adults (me, the special education teacher and my wonderful classroom aide) dress as paleontologists.

Once all of the parents arrive, we perform the song "What Do You Think of That" (also known as We Are the Dinosaurs) by Laurie Berkner. It is a really cute song about dinosaurs. Then, we recite the ABC's of Dinosaurs. Each child tells an important fact about a dinosaur. I actually got this idea from my daughter's kindergarten teacher. Once I saw the performance I knew I wanted to do it with my own class.

After the performance, the children act as museum guides and bring the parents to each exhibit. Here is the museum program or guide:

If You Take A T-Rex To School...

My dinosaur unit is almost complete. We culminate this awesome unit with a classroom museum and presentation for our parents. It is next week so I will be sure to post lots of pics. For a special writing activity, we made a class book called If You Take A T-Rex To School... We had so much fun thinking of the crazy things that could happen and the different ways a T-Rex could actually be helpful. I am giving you the writing template and cover as a freebie. I altered the writing sheet a bit. The one I used with my class said "If You Take A T-Rex to School, "He" Will...  Some of my girls wished the T-Rex could be a girl, so I omitted that part from your sheet :) Also, please enjoy some pictures of my student's work.

Ten Frame Fun with Dinosaurs - Math Freebie

During Math Stations, I continue to have my students practice digits 11-20 using ten frames for one of the tubs.

They fill in ten frame grids with counters ( I found adorable dinosaur erasers at the Dollar Tree) and then they write the numbers on a white board.  When checking in with this group, I check their understanding of these specific digits and also ask if they can tell me how many more they need to get to 20.

Detective Dinosaur Reading Activities

Hi everyone! I just went to Barnes and Noble today and found some really great deals. They have hard cover, picture book versions of some really popular "I Can Read" books. Since I am currently in full "Dinosaur Mode" in my classroom, I decided to purchase Detective Dinosaur and Danny and the Dinosaur. Each hard cover book was only 5.95 plus it was Teacher Appreciation Day - jackpot!!

Since I was so excited to find these great treasures, I decided to make a few activities. I made three activities for Detective Dinosaur - one for each chapter. I hope you enjoy them!

Dinosaur Vocabulary Fun!

Hi there! I just finished making a small set of dinosaur vocabulary strips for my mini pocket chart. I like to laminate the word strips for durability. I typically have the students pick three of them and then they write them in a book, one word per page. They illustrate the word at the top of the page. The clip art is from KPM Doodles. Dinosaur Math Fun - Freebie!

Hi everyone. So sorry for not posting in a while but I have been on...spring break! Yahoo! No, not spring break like when I was in college (those were the days), but a nice relaxing break with my family. We did not go away, but that extra time in the morning, with that extra cup of coffee and my breakfast date with Matt Lauer, feels like a beautiful getaway!  I have made a few new things for my current dinosaur unit. T-Rex Measurement Fun! Math Freebie

One of my favorite activities that I do with my students during my dinosaur unit is the T-Rex foot activity. I make a model of a T-Rex footprint out of green bulletin board paper. Then we hang it up in the room. I have the children estimate how many of them they think would be able to fit or stand inside the footprint. Then, we test our estimations. The children all take turns standing on the dinosaur footprint to see just how many of thtem can all fit at one time. It is hilarious! I made a new sheet for the activity. Here is is for all of you!
